A century

This is my 100th post - and boy has it been a long time coming!
We have been very busy this year with family and work commitments but have fitted in quite a lot of travelling too so the blog has had to take a back seat.
The allotment is winding up for the winter now - I wasn't in the right place at the right time to plant much to over winter just a few parsnips, brassicas but no sprouts (disaster - we love our sprouts) and that's it. the boys picked grandma a boquet when we were clearing up at the weekend . But who would give it to her?
as you can see they have their own way of sorting these things out!

Tonight we have been making preparations for the weekend. The pumpkins may be small but they look quite good I think.

We have two parties a disco and a school non uniform day to prepare ourselves for - Hallow'een was never this important when I were a lass. So off to polish up my face painting skills YS wants to go as a "zombie ear basher with a scythe" ,whatever one of those may be.

  2. Nice pumpkin carving!

You can still eat the insides of the pumpkin when you carve it Tanya, just have to scoop it out with a spoon ;>) Not as easy granted, but everyone's happy!

  5. Love the pumpkins! Hate halloween and how we've gone overboard about it in the UK now, makes me go all Victor Meldrew that I have to leap up and answer the door every few minutes for a couple of hours to give out sweets to kids who, half the time, have barely made an effort. Grump groan...

  6. Yes we grew the pumpkins - shamefully small though - we will redouble our efforts next year.
Plantaliscious (love the name)the kids are taught at school that not everyone is happy to participate and the general rule in the village is if you have a pumpkin in the window or outside or have trimmed up the house you are ready for visitors - if not go elsewhere. We just visit houses of friends and relatives but in a village that can be quite a few!
I still feel it is an Americanism - but any excuse for a party I say!

  7. Now I feel like a curmudgeon! Great idea re the decorating, and actually we only have ourselves to blame for the visits on the 31st. My other half started supplying back when we first moved here and we knew the kids next door either side. Word gets around... And actually I love lights, pumpkins etc, just the interruptions that make me grumpy! Thanks for popping over to my blog...

  9. Excellent pumpkin carving, puts mine to shame. I enjoyed Tyntesfield too when we went soon after they had opened it. Must make the effort to go back and see how they're getting on with it sometime soon.
